ABOUT US
Lyn & Jim Palmer & Chris Pitts
What began as an interest in flowering tropical plants, quickly became an obsession that took over our suburban block.
When you love what you do and people will pay you to do what you love, you’re in business. In 2008, we bought a 15 acre property south of Mackay, bordered by a majestic creek attracting an abundance of wildlife, to accommodate our love of tropical plants.
With a comprehensive range of Heliconias, Gingers and tropical foliage to beautify your home or gift on special occasions, our tropical plants have expanded to a range of tasty fruits. In 2015 we originally purchased 300 tissue cultured banana trees that now total approximately 3000 and several varieties like Cavendish, Ducasse, Dwarf Ducasse, Lady Fingers and Dwarf Red Daccas. Paw paws, papayas, passionfruit, black sapotes, carambolas, star apples, mangoes, lychees, limes and lemons are also seasonally available.
We supply bananas to local IGA stores, you’ll also find us at the Greater Whitsunday Farmers Market most Wednesdays, and we are permanent stall holders at the Mackay Outdoor Showground Markets each Saturday.

In 2017, two years after we decided to expand our tropical plant range to include bananas, a survey of Australian households revealed that nine out of ten (94%) consumed bananas.
Aiming for a standard of excellence – we continue to apply newly acquired knowledge in soil health, ensuring optimum nutrition for our plants and people. Conforming to Biosecurity regulations, our banana plants are derived from tissue cultures free from pests, disease, nematodes and viruses. Our crops are rotated, and legumes are planted during the fallow period to replace key nutrients naturally.
Diversifying varieties, we offer Cavendish, Ducasse, Dwarf Ducasse, Lady Finger and Dwarf Red Dacca.

Tropical Flowers
HELICONIAS & GINGERS

Heliconia
Heliconia is a beautiful flower with multi colour bracts and varied flower structure. They are native to the tropical Americas and the Pacific Ocean islands west to Indonesia. Heliconias are related to the banana family. They are known for their long vase life and some varieties can last up to 2 weeks when correctly cared for.
Tropical flowers are very thirsty so ensure the cut flowers have plenty of water. Misting also helps to retain the high humidity. They do not like direct heat and place them away from air conditioning units. As they are a tropical flower so they don’t produce in the winter months in the Mackay area. Our season is normally from October to late autumn.

ORNAMENTAL GINGER
Iconic tropical and subtropical plants that have spectacular, brightly coloured flowers. They are from the plant order zingiberales and are the more glamorous relatives of edible ginger, bananas and turmeric.
Ornamental ginger is an amazingly versatile flower and comes in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colours. Our selection includes torch gingers, red with several varieties of pink which flower for most of the year. We also grow a range of beehive gingers which flower from October through to February.
